Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS) is a DEA approved legal process that allows pharmacies, distributors and manufacturers to transmit Schedule II (CII) orders electronically. The DEA has provided regulations that allow CII items to be ordered electronically, provided that certain criteria are satisfied. In order to access the complete Federal Register, click here.
Currently, DEA Form 222 is required for the purchase of CII substances, which is completed manually by the purchasing entity. The new electronic ordering process utilizes an electronic signature and is intended to reduce the paperwork and costs associated with processing CII orders by the purchaser, distributor, and the DEA.
